A brief history of digital advertising

February 10, 2018

We tend to think that digital advertising started well after the turn of the millennium, but in truth, the first ad banner to ever appear online originated in.... 1994. The same year the Web was commercialized. Let’s take a look back at how this fairly recent industry (compared to many others) evolved exponentially over the past two and half decade and how it went from a highly fractured and “lawless” ecosystem to a more structured and normalized one. This is in no way an exhaustive list of all the developments that have impacted the digital advertising industry, but it’s still a pretty good one! Let’s begin.

Paid advertising in a world of rising cost

whitePaper | September 30, 2022

Like gas and groceries, marketing is getting more expensive – and B2B SaaS marketers who rely on paid advertising feel the pain the most. Macroeconomic conditions and changes in B2B buying behavior have made traditional ad playbooks pricier, less effective, and less scalable: Ads are more expensive due to crowding and competition on paid platforms. People have changed the way they research products online, and they are leaving trackable platforms for dark social. If it feels like “people aren’t clicking on ads anymore,” you’re not alone. New privacy regulations make it difficult to target the right customers - and easy to waste ad budgets.

Why Ad Quality Matters So Much For Rewarded Video Ads

whitePaper | September 19, 2022

What Are Rewarded Video Ads? Many apps, and especially mobile games, have rewarded ad units, in which users are exposed to an ad in exchange for a benefit (extra lives, in- app currency, etc.). These ads are often video ads, but a rewarded ad can come in any format, including a playable/interactive ad, a full-screen interstitial, or a 360° ad, among others. Rewarded ads are among the most popular ad formats because users gain a reward for viewing the ad (beyond just getting access to the app for free). 54% of mobile gamers prefer rewarded ads, while 50% of mobile gamers like rewarded ad formats overall. By comparison, only 21% explicitly dislike them. 61% of Gen Z gamers "enjoyed using the offerwall to complete rewarded ad offers."
