Facebook is often seen as an opportunity for small business. Instead of needing to splash on big ad buys for uncertain results, smaller firms can get ads and marketing messaging in front of the right demographics for small sums and easily track the results of their spending. In theory, at least. “Typically, budgets need to be between $5,000 and $10,000 per month to generate good data that can be used to optimize,” notes Ilan Nass, chief strategist for Tactical Digital ad agency. This isn’t a lot by advertising standards, but it still can be more than many cash-strapped small businesses want to pay. While tracking results with Facebook are admittedly easy, many smaller firms are dismayed to discover that the results aren’t exactly what was billed.
